2026 MSE Engineering Student/Postdoc Awards

Congratulations to the Department of Materials Science and Engineering students, and postdoctoral students, who have been recognized in receiving the following awards.

Top row left to right:

Lucy T. Norris and Shujing Zhu – Penn Engineering Exceptional Service Award 
The Penn Engineering Exceptional Service Award is given to recognize and honor outstanding students for their service to the University.

Tobia Ruth and Lucy Zheng – Brick Award 
The R. M. Brick Award is named for the first chairman of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, and is awarded to the graduating senior(s) who have demonstrated, through a combination of academic performance, effort, and personal qualities, that he or she will be a credit to the Department, the School, and the University.

Stella Lin and Will McCambridge – Hugo Otto Wolf Memorial Prize
The Hugo Otto Wolf Memorial Prize, founded by Otto C. Wolf in memory of his son, is awarded to the member(s) of the senior class in each department of the School of Engineering and Applied Science who, during the senior year, by the thoroughness and originality of his or her work, meets with the greatest approval of the professors in charge.

Dionne Yeung. M&T Award
The Management and Technology Scholarship Award is awarded by the SEAS faculty to that member of the senior class in the Management and Technology Program who has created an innovative system and attained high scholastic achievement.

Tony Tian, Engineering Alumni Society E. Stuart Eichert, Jr. Award
The Engineering Alumni Society’s E. Stuart Eichert, Jr. Student Award is given annually by the Engineering Alumni Society to that student in the School of Engineering and Applied Science, who, during his or her junior year, best exemplifies the characteristics of selfless service to the University and the Community.

Xiayueyang Mei, Outstanding Academic Award  
The Outstanding Academic Award is awarded to Master’s students who have demonstrated excellence in coursework and overall academic performance.

Jiarui Wang,  Outstanding Research Award, Honorable Mention 
The Outstanding Research Award is awarded to Master’s students who have demonstrated significant contributions to faculty supervised research projects.

Rishika Mehavarnam, Outstanding Academic Award  
The Outstanding Academic Award is awarded to Master’s students who have demonstrated excellence in coursework and overall academic performance.

Yuhui Wang,  The Geoffrey Belton Graduate Fellowship Award 
 
The Geoffrey Belton Graduate Fellowship Award is given to a PhD student in her/his 3rd year of study who has made superior and significant contributions to her/his field of PhD study.

John Yu-Chang Chen,  The Geoffrey Belton Graduate Fellowship Award 
 
The Geoffrey Belton Graduate Fellowship Award is given to a PhD student in her/his 3rd year of study who has made superior and significant contributions to her/his field of PhD study.

Yewei Huang, The Intel Award
 
The Intel Graduate Fellowship recognizes outstanding contributions to materials science and is awarded to fourth-year PhD student(s).

Jiaxin Liu, The Outstanding Teaching Award
The Outstanding Teaching Award is presented to student(s) who have demonstrated significant contributions as a teaching assistant in one or more courses.

Jong Bin Kim, 2026 CAS Future Leaders Top 100
The CAS Future Leaders program recognizes outstanding Ph.D. students and postdoctoral researchers in the chemical sciences and related disciplines who demonstrate not only scientific excellence but also exceptional leadership potential and a commitment to advancing the global scientific community. The Award is given to equip elite early-career scientists with the leadership, communication, and business skills necessary to solve the world’s most complex scientific challenges.
