The Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania welcomes Eric Huang as a Senior Lecturer.
Huang earned a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in Chemical Engineering and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. At the University of Minnesota, he studied with Prof. Victor H. Barocas in the Department of Biomedical Engineering. His doctoral work used in-house finite-element code to model fluid flow and fluid-structure interactions in the anterior chamber of the eye. The work provided a mechanistic understanding of pupillary block in angle closure glaucoma.
During 2015-2022, Huang worked as a Principal Scientist at Bristol Myers-Squibb (New Brunswick, NJ). He led engineering teams and developed processes used to manufacture active pharmaceutical ingredients. The work involved lab and scaled experiments of separation processes such as crystallization, distillation, extraction, and filtration.
Besides his industrial experience, Huang also has ten years experience teaching engineering at various institutions (e.g., Harvey Mudd, Manhattan College). Most recently, he worked in the Biomedical Engineering Department at Bucknell University where he taught heat transfer, programming, materials science, and advised senior design teams.
